Tax Bracket Racing -- 1998 Ed Quay Super Comp/Super Pro Dragster
After putting Tax Bracket Racing’s venerable 1994 Pro Start dragster out to pasture between the 2006 and 2007 racing seasons, the team picked up its replacement, that being a 1998 Ed Quay rail. Unlike the Pro Start car, which was a hardtail, the new Quay car is a four-link car.
Most of the drivetrain and other components were moved over from the old car to the new one, including the Gil Davis-built 481 big-block Chevy, which makes an estimated 700 horsepower with help from a set of Dart Pro 1 aluminum cylinder heads and a Don’s Custom Carburetors prepared Holley Dominator fuel mixer. A shorty Powerglide transmission backs the engine, and with help from a Select Performance converter, funnels the power to the Hoosier rear slicks thanks to Mark Williams rear axles and Strange gears. The car is stopped with help from a pair of Lamb brakes.
The same Biondo Racing Products Mega 450 delay box and electronic throttle stop get the car close to the 8.90 Super Comp index. While the car has only been out once under the Tax Bracket Racing name, that being at the Atco LODRS event in 2007, the team plans to compete in Super Comp as well as in Super Pro at Numidia Dragway.
